Associated Press Scoops Bark Story
In a recent Associated Press news article titled "Magazine Aimed at Thinking Dog Owners," writer William Schiffmann reports, "Since the first tiny issue some three years ago, the work of a wide variety of writers, poets, essayists and artists has graced The Bark's pages as it changed from a newspaper format to the current magazine. Almost all the contributors are involved in some way with dogs. . . There's Douglas Gordon, a professor at Christopher Newport University in Virginia, whose course 'Dogs in Literature' has earned him the title Dr. Dog. Ian Dunbar designed the popular Sirius Puppy Training Program. And Ian Shoales can be heard doing commentary on public radio stations..." To cater to some 60,000 readers, there are also poems; letters to the editor; thoughtful, evocative stories, all featuring dogs in one way or another and attracting dozens of new subscriptions daily. And there are ads, seemingly for every quirky, interesting and offbeat establishment catering to dogs." Bark editor Claudia Kawczynska reports, "Newspapers across the country, including the Seattle Times, Arizona Republic, Houston Chronicle and many others have picked up the story and we've also been profiled by San Francisco's Fox & WB TV stations."
