Recipes: Going Beyond Kibble

Doggy Dinner Loaf (Chicken, Beef or Fish)

Base  

Rice (brown or white), raw
Water
Pasta (whole wheat or plain), dry
Oats (rolled), raw
Eggs, raw
Flour, whole wheat
Calcium carbonate

1 quart
1 cup
1 cup
4 average
1/2 cup
1 1/2 tsp.
Vegetables  

Potato, raw, chopped
Sweet potato, raw, chopped
Carrot, raw, grated
Pumpkin, raw, chopped
Spinach or chard, raw

1/4 cup

1 cup
Meat  

Chicken, raw, with skin 14 oz., plus 3 1/2 oz. chicken liver
OR
Ground beef, regular, raw 2 cups plus 3 1/2 oz. liver
OR
Fish, raw 14 oz. plus 2 tablespoons olive oil


Cook rice in boiling water; add potato, sweet potato, pumpkin and pasta a cook for 15 minutes longer. Add remaining ingredients, choosing chicken, beef or fish. The mixture should be moist, but firm (add more oats if necessary). Place mixture in oiled loaf tin and bake up to one hour at 350 degrees. Remove loaf from tin and place in oven for further 10 to 15 minutes to set.

Divide the loaf into:
6 slices (500 calories each)
10 slices (300 calories each)
20 slices (150 calories each)
Energy from protein, 25%; fat, 35%; carbohydrate, 39%.
