Vick Gets A Reality Show
Yup, Virginia, truth is stranger than fiction.

This is not a headline from The Onion. Although, it should be. The Los Angeles Times reports, "Michael Vick to star in docu-series." For real. Not only is he back in the NFL, he's being paid an undisclosed amount to star on TV show about his "comeback." If that doesn't count as cashing in on his crimes, I don't know what does.

I see that the people involved in the series promise a high-minded, documentary-style look at Vick, including sheding light on how he became involved with dog fighting in the first place. Of course, they aren't in TV production for altruistic reasons. There's money in this controversy and that's the motivation pure and simple. Why doesn't BET get behind a serious mainstream documentary-style consideration of the culture and reality of dog fighting and make a real contribution to the effort to shut it down?

Meanwhile, the presence of cameras and the need to attract audiences won't be conducive to introspection for Vick, which is essential for true reformation. And what's the takeaway for America's youth? Big celebs who get caught torturing and killing animals, may do a little time (although not as much as unknown schlubs), but eventually return to the limelight and the big bucks.

I totally agree with you, Lisa. Shocking. Except it's not...

This is just disgusting. At least I never watch BET to begin with now.
