New Game for Android Phone Simulates Dog Fighting. UPDATE!
Dog Wars turns suffering into a mobile phone diversion

[4/26/11 Editor's note: It looks like Google heard the people! Dogfighting Game from Android Markets Following Complaints. Hooray.]

Seriously, who thought this was a good idea—free game for Android phones in which players feed, train and fight virtual dogs? “Dog Wars” participants can even inject their animals with steroids, bet virtual money and use a gun to fight the cops during a bust.

“Anything that in any way appears to promote or condone the serious, violent crime of dog fighting is cause for concern,” says Dr. Randall Lockwood, senior vice president of ASPCA Forensic Sciences and Anti-Cruelty Projects. “This ‘game’ comes at a time when public outrage and law enforcement concern about dog fighting is at an all-time high, and the public should make this outrage known to those who promote it.” The ASPCA is among several groups calling for Google to reject the Android app.
Meanwhile Kage Games, the company behind this brainstorm, argues it’s just a game, get over it.  Well, that’s true. But those of us who know about the consequences of fighting for defenseless dogs, we don’t want to get over it. It can be hard enough to persuade people that animals suffer, we don’t need to turn that suffering into a light-hearted diversion that further undermines the reality.
The truth of dog fighting is a life spent on a heavy chains, with inadequate care, food and water, isolation, and injury and even violent death during the fights themselves. Learn more at the ASPCA’s Blood Sports section.
To call for Google to block this game from the Android market—you can sign a petition at Change.org or contact press@google.com or Android Market.

Investigate the designers, the marketers--anyone to do with this shameful endeavor.

Kage games doesn't think this Android App is a big deal. Of course not....it will make money. Convicted Felon, Michael Vick, didn't think it was a big deal to torture his dogs and make them fight, sometimes to the death. He never did apologize for his cruel acts. Now we are subjected to a game of dog fighting by Google as an app on our Android cell phones. More violence mimicking Vick's sick idea of a "sport" which maims and kills dogs.

The only bright side?

In the future (if there is a future, given the alarming number of idiots who appear to be running things - who knows, maybe we've reached a tipping point, a "critical mass" of idiots who now outnumber people of normal intelligence to such an extent that our eventual extinction is virtually guaranteed), since everything that people create digitally seems never to disappear, a copy of "Dog Wars" will live on in perpetuity, and the names of the game's creators, as well as their employer, will be etched in history as pathetic reminders of just how far humanity had still to evolve in the 21st century.

I fail to see the difference between this and the war games out there. Or gang violence games. They are all brutal and all should be banned.
If you are going to protest dog violence in games you should protest all voilence in games. No violent activity should be considered ok.

I hope this one gets banned and did sign the petition. I hope it will open the door to cleaning up other games.

I think this game is horrible, but honestly, do dogs have more value than humans? There are tons of games that involve the murder of human victims. It gives me something to think about when people so strongly protest a case of virtual animal abuse but are complacent when it comes to the abuse and/or murder of virtual humans.

The name was changed to "KC Dogfighting" by Kage Games LLC, app for $2.99. This app has NOT gone away. Dog fighting is illegal in all 50 states because of the cruel nature of this "sport" in which dogs must fight until they are too injured to continue, or until one of the dogs dies. Injured dogs are often used as bait to excite other fighting dogs. To make matters worse, statistics show that people who abuse animals are exponentially more likely to harm human beings. This behavior shouldn't be encouraged--even in game form.

What a bunch of assbags - how dare you make a game like this, let's make a game put you in and kill you - now that sounds like a plan....Get rid of the damn app and grown the hell up, you are promoting one of the worse things you can do to an animal, you should be ashamed of yourselves............SCUM!!!!
