For 16 years, The Bark has been the voice of modern canine life, chronicling dog culture, exploring the many facets of the canine-human bond and delighting in the joy that dogs bring to our lives. We have watched dogs enter into our homes, become part of our families and, now, bring their warmth and love into our workplaces. For that reason, we celebrate the fact that dogs are now our co-workers, our cube mates and our office confidantes with Bark’s Best Places to Work presented by Zuke’s!
Bark’s Best Places to Work presented by Zuke’s honors the most dog-friendly businesses in America. Our winning list of canine-friendly companies will shine the spotlight on the very best places to work with your canine cohort. Three winning companies will be featured in Bark’s Winter 2013 issue and each of their office pups will receive a year’s worth of Zuke’s dog treats!
Winners will be chosen by our panel of judges based on the following criteria:
CANINE-FRIENDLY CAMPUS: Does your workplace cater to your pooch? Does it go beyond dog beds under desks and really make them feel welcome? Are your dogs regular attendees at company meetings? We’ll be seeking inviting, safe workplaces that pay special attention to the needs and wellbeing of company dogs. In short, a dog workers paradise.
DOG-DRIVEN WORK POLICIES: Does your company offer special pet benefits? Do they provide pet insurance or pet care? We’ll be looking for thoughtful, progressive pet-policies — fair and balanced for both humans and dogs. High on our list are policies that promote a creative and productive setting for workers of every type.
DEDICATED TO CANINE CAUSES: When it’s time to donate resources to a cause, does your company go to the dogs? Does the company encourage employee volunteerism? Does it support rescue efforts and sponsor charitable events? How does the company demonstrate its commitment to animal welfare and philanthropy? We’re looking for companies who go above and beyond to help animals in their community.
Who Is Eligible?
To be eligible for consideration, companies must meet the following criteria:
- Are committed to an open year-round dog policy
- Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business or government entity
- Have a minimum of 4 employees working in the United States
- Legally reside in the continental United States, or the District of Columbia; excluding companies residing in Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. Territories and Puerto Rico.
The Bark is accepting nominations for the 2013 Bark’s Best Places to Work presented by Zuke’s. You can nominate your own company or another business you admire for its canine-friendly work policies — the free program is open to all organizations that meet the eligibility requirements. Nominations will only be accepted via the online form below. Nominations will be reviewed by a team of Bark editors, pet industry experts and human (and canine) resources professionals. Companies that are selected as finalists will be contacted for further examination and assessment. Nominations will be accepted from May 1, 2013 until August 2, 2013 at midnight. Winners will be announced in The Bark’s 2013 Winter issue.
